I will tell you I have no interest in religion in any shape or form despite my strict Catholic schooling. For me, this is a tale of confrontation, truth and digging within your heart of hearts to possibly find more. I enjoy the personalities of the participants (especially Lyn and Tammy) and I guess you could almost say this is the conservative person's Big Brother.
The Abbey follows five ordinary women as they spend 33 days and nights living the life of an enclosed Benedictine nun. It is the first time that the outside world has entered the hidden cloisters of the Abbey.
Set on eighty hectares of bush property, nestled on a stunning mountain top two hours drive from Sydney. The Abbey buildings, surrounded by bush and sweeping paddocks, look out to panoramic views over the NSW south coast.
With unprecedented access, the women leave behind the hurly-burly of modern day life to embark upon a search for meaning, God and the self behind the walls of the enclosed order. They struggle with the demands of monastic life, homesickness, and their own personal demons. What can happen at the Abbey is a chance to explore life’s biggest questions, but what actually happens will intrigue you.
Tuesdays, ABC1 at 11:00am - 12:00pm.
