Happiness in my post office box

Each month when the new Country Style mag arrives I am horrified that once again another 30 odd days have passed and I am only half way through that other edition, but the beauty and happiness each cover brings me is the start of a great day.

And so are these fabulous heels of mine. The comfort level is out of this world.

How often do you wear heels? Apparently Miss D thinks it is odd that I wear them.

Living in a green kitchen

This book, The Green Kitchen has prompted my love of many things this week - the kitchen, the produce, health and happiness and sharing. Something had to, I should have known being in the kitchen would sort me out.

Most of next week's meal plan has come from this book and immediately I roasted a wonderful batch of toasted muesli. Nutty, crunchy and spicy just as I like it. As usual, it will make lovely gifts at Christmas time.

When I'm standing in the kitchen I have a strong sense of connection to my daughters. If I, if we don't show our youngsters where the best food comes from then I believe my parenting task is not fulfilled. I secretly love that the six year old carries on and on with bursts of disgust when we drive past fast food establishments. That's her right!

And at the same time it is my right to sit seaside with a piping hot papery bag of goodness - fresh, hot chips with a side of aioli thank you.

I am also taking in the latest Donna Hay magazine as well as the previous year's issue for this season.

Somebody said I should take a look at 'Save with Jamie'. Are you a fan, has the book made it to your collection, and have you read it?

Studs

Adorable new flats from Wittner. Yes, I have well and truly fallen for stud fever this season.

Coffee makes my world go 'round

It's not everybody's cup of tea but geez I heart coffee. The bean, the smell, the colour, the liquid gold, the creaminess, the ritual.

I look forward to my first coffee each day whether it is from my own cup or takeaway. But these gorgeous little southern ice ceramic cups make the perfect moment even more so.

The smallest artist

The little one's last art project for Prep year in 2012 was a canvas piece, here she is in all her glory presenting it to us with so much colour and life. She is so very happy with her efforts and so are we - now she proudly displays this one on her bedroom wall.

Long live art....in schools.

Favourites

Do you have a favourite holiday snap? This is definitely one of mine, no edit..no crop, just straight up early morning loveliness. It was taken on a holiday in Coolum at the end of September 2011.

Morning person

Whilst I do call myself a morning person I am very much a night owl as well. A hard one to juggle at times.

Not having daylight savings in my part of the world is a disadvantage in my opinion. Why waste these beautiful moments when so many more would see the sunrise if they were awake?

A very healthy veggie patch

Zooming back into this space with an update on our veggie patch. We really neglected this space in the past two years and with each and every dollar we were spending on groceries it gave us the nudge we needed to plant it out again.

Back in early October we started planning out the patch and decided it should reflect what we eat during the spring/summer months. Rows of rocket (arugala), a mix of lettuce heads, chilli, zucchini, basil, heirloom tomatoes, mint, dill, thyme and continental parsley. Some of the herbs we were growing elsewhere so they were moved into their new neighbourhood and really thrived. I still cannot believe the scrub turkeys, guinea fowl and insects haven't invaded the area. I guess it is early days.

As the area becomes more established we'll include more vegetables, at the back of the garden are pawpaw trees and a fruit plant our neighbour gifted us with, he says it's similar to a rockmelon but couldn't remember its name. I'm yet to Google that one.

The orchard is doing well, all of the stone fruit is coming on strongly, especially the plums and we are going to have to make some decisions as to how we protect the fruit from the Rosellas and King Parrots as another year has passed and we still haven't done anything about the netting!!!!

So, have a look here at how far we've come in less than 8 weeks - if you've considered getting your garden up and running don't delay, it is so much simpler than you expect, every day you wait is a missed opportunity of homegrown nutrition and delicious additions in the kitchen. Our salads are popping with herbs and any given chance I'm getting through that massive dill plant (fritatta, scrambled eggs, chicken dishes).

And the best part - the maintenance has been minimal with the mulch covering so any weeds that are popping through are an easier chore.

After it all, I get to perch up here and take in the awesome view I know I am very fortunate to have.
